Gotham Rangers 'B' 0 Cotgrave Colts Claret 3
2nd April 2008

First Half

Cotgrave started lively tonight, and could have been 3-0 up in less than five minutes, but shots from Keenan Berry and Johnny Commins were just wide of the target. Gotham made Cotgrave work hard, and closed us down well. Will Robinson had a great effort saved, but the keeper couldn’t hold onto the ball and Keenan Berry was there again to fire his first goal of the game into the back of the Gotham net, to make it 1-0 on 13minutes. Liam Hurworth made an immediate impact when he replaced Will Robinson late on in the first half, by slotting a superb through ball to Keenan Berry, who turned Gotham’s last defender and blasted the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0 on 23 minutes. Zak Bemrose, Keaton Powell and George Morris all put in a solid first half display, as did Luke Williams who replaced Keaton just before half time. Jake was rarely troubled in goal, as Gotham’s best efforts went wide.

Half Time

Gotham 0- 2 Cotgrave

Second Half

Gotham continued to battle well, and made it difficult for Cotgrave to break them down. Cotgrave had some great play along the two wings, but the final ball into the box was never met by a Cotgrave player. It was Will Robinson who managed to grab the 3 rd goal with a great solo effort on 30 minutes. Jake was released from his goalkeeping duties with ten minutes to play, and made his first outfield appearance of the season. Keenan was denied his second consecutive hat trick by some good Gotham defending.

Final Score

Gotham 0-3 Cotgrave

Summary

After Sunday’s semi final disappointment, Cotgrave needed to pick themselves up with a good performance. Cotgrave’s passing, movement and creativity in the first half was excellent, and had the finishing improved, we could have been 5 or 6 up at half time. Credit to Gotham though, they really battled for the entire game, and made Cotgrave work hard. Good performances from George and Luke, who haven’t played much in recent games didn’t go unnoticed, so well done lads. We still have three games to go, and nine points to play for, so keep up the hard work, and fourth place is still in our hands!
