Radcliffe Olympic 1 Cotgrave Colts Claret 1
11th November 2007

First half

Radcliffe kicked off uphill and put Cotgrave under pressure for the opening 5 minutes. Cotgrave counter attacked quickly in the sixth minute, with good work from Keenan Berry and Will Robinson, but it was Johnny Commins who steered the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 Cotgrave. The first half was evenly matched with both sides having good chances, only to be denied by some terrific goalkeeping from both keepers.

Half time Radcliffe Olympic 0 – 1 Cotgrave

Second half

Cotgrave piled on some early pressure from the kick off, but were caught on the counter on 28 minutes and Radcliffe grabbed a well-earned equaliser. The goal gave Radcliffe a bit of a lift, and they pushed for a second goal, but George Morris and Keaton Powell battled well together in defence to clear any danger. Having battled well in midfield, a tired Liam Hurworth was replaced by Zak Bemrose, who made an immediate impact. Zak added that little bit of energy and enthusiasm to Cotgrave midfield, and it was now Cotgrave’s turn to pile on the pressure. Cotgrave had the better chances to go on and win the game, but the Radcliffe keeper pulled off a string of fine saves to keep the scores level at 1-1.

Summary

We knew today’s game would be a good old battle. Radcliffe had only lost one game this season and came into this game confident after holding the league leaders Sandiacre to a 1-1 draw last week. Cotgrave battled well today, and although we had more chances, I think a point away from home was a great result for us today. We have shown great character in our last few games taking 7 points from 9, all away from home. Each week we are seeing an improvement, and if we keep on playing like this, who knows where we could finish at the end of the season. Well done to everyone today, this was probably our best performance of the season so far. Keep up the hard work, see you on Wednesday.

Also a big well done to everyone who played in the friendly afterwards. You all showed great determination and put in lots of effort.

We now have a big squad, so it is great to see you all battling for places in the starting seven, but remember it’s a very long season, and most of all, lets keep encouraging and helping each other to improve our team over the coming months.

I came to watch the game today and was impressed with the way the team has improved. The performance of a number of players was excellent. Jake in goal handled everything very well, George at the back was solid and reliable, Liam was very strong and worked hard, Johnny Keaton and Keenan caused problems for Radcliffe, Will has also improved the side. Zak when he came on added momentum to the side.

An excellent performance today and long may you carry on like this, good luck in your cup tie on Sunday.

I had an enjoyable morning watching watching you.
