First halfRadcliffe got the cup-tie under way, but Cotgrave gained possession straight away and almost scored in the opening minute, but were denied by some great goal keeping. Radcliffe counter attacked and scored with their first effort on goal on 3 minutes to take the lead. Cotgrave had plenty of possession and finally got the equaliser they deserved on 10 minutes from a Johnny Commins free kick on the edge of the area. Both sides had good chances to take a half time lead, but both goalkeepers made some impressive saves. Half time Cotgrave 1– 1 RadcliffeSecond half Cotgrave started the second half lively, and all their hard work paid off on 34 minutes when Keenan Berry broke down the left wing and fired the ball into the back of the Radcliffe net to make it 2-1. Radcliffe always looked dangerous on the counter, but Keaton was solid at the back today and cleared any danger. Zak and George both battled well at the back too, but it was Liam Hurworth and Will Robinson who impressed the most in midfield. Will grabbed a well-deserved 40 th minute goal to make it 3-1. Luke Williams came off the bench to bolster the defence, and Josh Childs made his first appearance of the New Year after returning from Australia. Radcliffe came very close to scoring in the final minutes, but were denied by the crossbar. Final Score Cotgrave 3–1 RadcliffeSummaryToday’s game was played in a typical cup-tie fashion, with both teams pushing forward looking to score. Cotgrave started the game lively and hassled Radcliffe from the start. Although Radcliffe took an early lead, Cotgrave always looked like they were well in control of the game. Jake made some fantastic saves in the first half, as did the Radcliffe keeper. For me, today’s game was won in midfield, Liam, Josh and Will were first to every ball, and all battled well for the duration of the game. Everyone worked hard, and looked to pass the ball today, rather than just hoof it away. If Cotgrave continue to play this kind of football week in week out, I am sure we will have a few more victories to celebrate this season. We are now through to the last 8 of this competition, which is a fantastic achievement for all of us. The remaining teams will give us a much tougher test, but if we play in the spirit that we have been playing, who knows what could happen. Well done to everyone, and thanks to all the parents for the help. |
