Cotgrave Colts 13 Rise Park Boys 0
11th December 2007

Cotgrave put in a sparkling performance under the floodlights on the Welfare pitch .

With only three minutes on the clock Jordan Cumberland broke through the Rise Park defence to open the scoring. Two minutes later Lewis Hopkinson took the ball down the right wing and crossed to the far post where Max Robertson doubled the lead. Constantly supplied with quality passes from Aidan Sheppard and Luke Black, Hopkinson and Robertson on the wings were continually stretching Rise Park.

On ten minutes Robertson was put through to claim his second. Harry Normington then set off on a solo run through the midfield which finished with him sliding the ball past the Rise Park keeper and into the net. The Cotgrave defence was holding a superb position across the half way line, with full backs Elliott Coutlhard-Gaunt and Thomas Staples alternately pushing forward to support the wingers. One passing move saw the ball worked from Coutlhard-Gaunt on the left, across the pitch via centre backs Ben Halcro and James Staples, to Thomas Staples on the right.

In the seventeenth and twenty-first minutes Robertson set-up Cumberland for his second and third goals, Normington then shot from the edge of the area to claim his second, and with three minutes of the half remaining Kris McCann passed the ball to Cumberland who beat a defender before firing in for his fourth and Cotgrave‘s eighth goal.

Cotgrave continued to attack in the second-half. In the thirty-third minute Matthew Hodgett opened his scoring for the season with a low hard shot from the edge of the area into the bottom corner of the net. A good passing move involving McCann and Black then put Robertson in, and he rounded the keeper to claim his hat-trick. Kit Weir then joined the list of goal-scorers with two in two minutes, the first a run through the middle, the second a close range finish from a Robertson cross. Finally, with two minutes left, Cotgrave took a short corner, Sheppard crossed and Black scored the thirteenth and final goal of the game from close range.

A good performance by Cotgrave on a special night playing under the floodlights.
