Match Report:

Today’s conditions were dreadful for football – strong gusts of wind wiped out the chance of good quality flowing football. That said the conditions were the same for both sides so nobody can claim an advantage because of the elements. East Valley are an effective unit and they certainly play to their strengths – they were good value for their win and it now looks as though they will go on to be crowned “Champions”. However, there was a period at the beginning of the 2 nd half when Cotgrave looked the more dominant side despite being 1 nil down; Connor and George were linking up well down the left and certainly caused problems for the East Valley right back. With a bit more luck the boys might have got back into the game.

Brain McClair once said (when at Man United) “we celebrate every goal we score as a team – therefore we must take responsibility as a team for every goal we concede”. Never have truer words been spoken (not sure Kelvin Wilson believed that on Monday night – but I am sure Paul Smith explained it to him after the Forest v Carlisle game on Monday).

This coming Sunday we are away at Wilford Mavericks. This is a big game for us as we desperately want to get back to our best. We have the players to do well in this Division as we were proving prior to the recent “injury crisis” that has hit the team. The good news is that Liam is now out of plaster – too early to return to his role between the sticks but we should see him back in some sort of action soon over the next few weeks (great team spirit shown by our Vice Captain turning up to support his team mates even though he cant play himself over the past few games). I have it on good authority that Dylan’s back problem is easing (he will want to be part of the action on Sunday given his hatrick against Wilford earlier in the season) – fingers crossed that he makes it. No news yet on Macaulay (ankle problems) but we are hoping for the best. If we do have to play a few more games with the team re-organised to accommodate absences then so be it. We still have the players to get results – with the right attitude and more determination it won’t be long until the recent run of bad results will be a distant memory.

Come on lads – heads up and get the smile back on your faces! Mark and I have confidence in your abilities and so should you.

Oh for those interested the fulltime score was 5 – 0

Good luck to East Valley for the rest of the season.

Alan and Mark.

p.s. thanks to Steve for running the line today.

I can report Liam trained last night with the Colts u12s just to get some match sharpness. Thanks to Ian Bartle and the u12s for allowing him to do so, he thoroughly enjoyed it.

Liam has a soft type bandage on his wrist but says he is 'fit' to play Sunday in an outfield position.

Its a shame that you didn't mention the 40 yard screamer that was scored against the very strong wind. Definitly goal of the season for us.

Sorry about not mentioning the EV goal - it certainly was an excellent strike and was worthy of your (to be confirmed - but I am it is only a matter of time) Champions status.

Did you see things differently? Do you have anything to add? We will add feedback to the bottom of the report, but PLEASE refrain from personal criticism, whether it is players, referee, linesman, managers etc. If you do, then it will not be added. Try as much as possible to keep it positive.
