Match Report:

This game ended 6-3 to Netherfield but (like our home game to Clifton) the score line didn’t necessarily reflect the difference between the two teams. The Colts players should be proud of their efforts today; they passed the ball very well and kept their shape in all areas of the pitch (especially in 1st half).

This is not going to be a detailed match report today but please don’t read anything in to this; I am up against a tight timescale today otherwise I could write pages and pages about my observations (with all the correct timings, etc).

In summary, well done to every player who put in 100% effort (that’s all of you by the way); well done to the players playing in new positions for the first time today (you all did exceptionally well). Well done to Jack and Tom who shared the goalkeeping duties; you were not a fault for any of the goals conceded (hard luck with the penalty Tom you almost kept it out).

Today’s goal scorers all took their goals well; especially Liam who scored from distance with an excellent strike (fitting reward as he had his best game of the season so far today). The other scorers were Macaulay (great first half) and Dylan.

Ryan B had his best game of the season today (in an attacking position) and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet (his effort bounced off the under side of the cross bar).

Our other Ryan (Ryan S) certainly showed me today that he means business for the rest of the season; great attitude and a good performance today Ryan thank you.

Craig and Dylan were both playing today in spite of feeling under the weather earlier in the week; Dylan was rewarded with a goal and Craig was our outstanding defender this morning.

Chris and Will ran tirelessly and worked very hard for the team providing width when we attacked and covering and pressing when we defended.

Robbie was determined and kept to his job well as did George when he was introduced to the play. Brin (like George) is playing a year above his age group so coming up against the older players is a tough call; but Brin (as always) gave 100% like his team mates.

Fulltime – 6 – 3

Summary:

After today’s game the players were asked to place their vote for Captain for the remainder of the season. Thank you to those that came forward as candidates but the boys decided that rather than select one of the candidates they wanted Max as their Captain. Although he has only been at the club for two matches he has demonstrated great leadership qualities; this is in addition to showing a great deal of determination and ability in the matches. The boys recognised this and Max was elected with a landslide majority – well done to him, I am sure that you will do a great job Max.

I am going to close by thanking Liam for his work last season and for wearing the armband this season whilst the 2007/8 Captain was elected (the job is only for 1 season). If no other candidate had come forward then I would certainly have asked Liam to carry on the job as he did it very well in 2006/7. I have decided that in recognition of this, Liam will be our Vice Captain this season and will work alongside Max, Mark and I as we strive to continue building on the improved team spirit that has been evident so far this season.

I am, and I am sure you are, disappointed that we didn’t get anything from this game – you certainly deserved it and as one of the Netherfield parents said to me after the game “you will play worse than that and win this season” (compliment indeed – thanks (on behalf of the players) to the individual concerned.

"THANKS" to Max's brother who ran the line for us today - you did a great job.

Training is on Friday this week ( 7 til 8) at Radcliffe (sorry for any confusion last week).

Alan and Mark.
