Match Summary:

I am afraid that during the un-scheduled stop at MacDonalds on the way home after the game I seem to have mislaid the notes I made so no detail in the match report this time (other than what I can remember) I am afraid.

Having beaten Wollaton twice already this season (once in the cup) I think that maybe the boys were expecting to get their hatrick tonight. It wasn’t to be; Wollaton have improved greatly as the season has gone on (which is a credit to their players and management) and our boys didn’t really get going until half-time, with one or two exceptions.

The first Wollaton goal was a bad one for us to concede, the players know that and they made efforts not to concede in the same fashion again during the game. The second goal was a well struck shot that the Wollaton player must have been pleased with.

At 2 nil down some of our players let their heads drop; this is something that they cannot afford to let happen. Long faces and the feeling of being hard done by would only have resulted in Wollaton winning the game.

At halftime (and 2-0 down) we tried to lift the players and get them to focus on the good feeling that got after such an excellent performance last Sunday away at Vernon. It seemed to do the trick. Will scored two goals; the first, a result of hard work and battling by Craig, was a close range effort the second was something special. Picking up the loose ball on the right he looked up and smashed the ball high into the net. Will is getting a bit of a reputation for scoring spectacular goals.

On reflection 2-2 was a fair result. The referee (who was excellent throughout) commented after the game it had been played like a “cup tie”; I think he was right but from our perspective, only in the second half.

Special mention for Sam who had his best game for the Colts since joining the team. He finished the game at centre half and was outstanding; winning tackles and using the ball intelligently. You can tell he is a Notts fan!

Well done for battling back today boys, in the end you did yourselves proud. Both teams contributed to what a passer-by told me was “an entertaining game”.

Our last game of the season is fast approaching; Keyworth at home. If the boys apply themselves throughout like they did in the second half tonight then they have every chance to go into the summer 7 games unbeaten.

Many thanks to Brian who did a great job of running the line tonight.

Final Score: Wollaton Hall 2 v Cotgrave Colts 2

Well done boys
