Cotgrave
Colts 2 Arnold Town 3 |

February 2008 |
Cotgrave were without Ben Dunning & Jimmie Whitehead, who are both really having a very good spell for the club. Arnold were without Dobbo, who we wish a speedy recovery from his back problem. Cotgrave started the game kicking up a slight slope and with the wind in their faces, so we expected a tough half. The lads played great last week against Carlton, so at last the team is starting to show the belief and confidence that they can match the best teams in the division if they play to their potential. Arnold went into an early lead after a great defence splitting pass that sent the Arnold player in on goal. It was a nice finish, but the pass was superb. Cotgrave's heads didn't drop and the players really battled all over the pitch. Cotgrave got their reward when Alex Keeling's cross/shot was superbly finished with a neat flick by Ryan Smith. Later in the half Cotgrave won a penalty after Ryan Smith was adjudged to be brought down by the Arnold defender with the goal at his mercy. I personally thought it could have been given either way, but I was a long way away. It would have been really harsh if the referee had applied the full law and took action against the Arnold player. Glen Dale stepped up and slotted home the penalty leaving the Arnold keeper no chance. Half time: Cotgrave 2 Arnold 1 Second half started with Arnold playing like their manager had given them a right ear bashing as half time. Arnold were now starting to create some chances and they hit the post and Jacob pulled off another great save tipping one over the bar. Cotgrave were restricted to counter-attacks, but the midfield and defence were still battling hard to restrict a good Arnold team. Arnold managed to get an equaliser after a cross into the area wasn't dealt with and it ended up with a Cotgrave player kicking the ball and it hit the back/bum of an Arnold player and went over the line for 2-2. The winning goal from Arnold came when the referee decided to even things up in the penalty count. The Arnold player ran into a small hollow on the pitch and went down unchallenged and the referee blew for a penalty. I was exactly level with the incident. The Arnold penalty taker converted the penalty very well. Cotgrave pushed for an equaliser but it didn't come. Full time: Cotgrave 2 Arnold 3 A very good performance today against a very good team. One that will be pushing for the title at the end of the season. I think we deserved something out of the game, but it just wasn't meant to be. I hope Arnold go on to win the league, so that Dobbo gets a winners medal. Having said that though, I hope we can push them as hard at their place. I could go through the whole team saying who did well, but in truth everyone gave 100% and that's all John can ask of them. Well done lads!! |
Feedback: name: Jason Dobbins Involvement: Opposition Parent I like to thank all of the Cotgrave parents and team for the warm welcome today and the kind words in the match report, it was nice to see that the Cotgrave team has still got that battling spirit and today they could of taken away Arnolds unbeaten run this season, Dobbo was deeply disappointed he could not play today and looks forward to the away match see you all then. |
Feedback: name: brewis Involvement: Cotgrave Player well played. we were unlucky but we will definetly stay up. good goals glen and ryan. i cant wait to play them again and i deffintely think we will get a result next time. |
Feedback: name: Arnold fc Involvement: Opposition Parent I was exactly opposite the penalty incident as well and when you use your ears as well as your eyes, you could hear the "whack" of boot on boot. The player didnt just "go down" at all and it was a 100% more of a penalty than the 1st one. In fact it was probably the first decision that "Elvis Costello" got right. |
Feedback: name: Chris Clark (match report writer) Involvement: Cotgrave Parent Just to clarify, the Arnold player 'did not' dive. He wasn't cheating. He simply lost his balance when his feet went into a slight hollow. We play on that pitch once or twice a season. The particular hollow in question is on the edge of the 18-yd box at the Leisure Centre side. It's usually one spot where water will stand when we've had rain. On a couple of occassions I have used plastic cups to try and drain it to get a game played. I know other people will be reading this comment and realising that they know exactly where I mean. This does not change the result though. Both teams played the game in a good way with very committed players on each team. Well done Arnold on the win and good luck for the rest of the season in the league and cups!! |

Feedback: name: Luke Haxby Involvement: Cotgrave Player Well done today lads. Everyone of us had a brilliant game it was unlucky that we didnt get a result. If we do that every game we will get some results to stay up. It will be another great game against them next time and we hope to get revenge. |
Feedback: name: Glen Involvement: Cotgrave Player Well done lads. every1 played great. and it was a pretty good result. if we play like that in the rest of our games we can definately pick up some results and chips after training. |
Did you see things differently? Do you have anything to add? We will add feedback to the bottom of the report, but PLEASE refrain from personal criticism, whether it is players, referee, linesman, managers etc. If you do, then it will not be added. Try as much as possible to keep it positive.
