Cotgrave Colts 2 Keyworth United 1
24th November 2007

This was a big game for both teams today. Both went into the game looking for 3-points. It was Cotgrave who got the better start and was in front after 32 seconds thanks to a great strike by Ben Dunning. The game was end to end throughout. Olly made a great save from a Keyworth free kick to keep Cotgrave in front. Keyworth pulled level towards the end of the half, despite efforts by Matt Brewis and Olly Vickers to keep the ball out.

Half time: Cotgrave 1 Keyworth 1

The two best players on the pitch today was the two keepers for each team. Both keepers were very brave and often tidied up behind their defences. Olly Vickers in the Cotgrave goal was playing on his birthday and was in no mood to give any presents to the opposition. This was easily his best game of the season. Greg Halford hit a great free kick that looked destined for the top corner, but the Keyworth keeper tipped it over. The resulting corner saw Luke Haxby come close with a well struck volley that went just by the post. With 5 minutes to go it looked as though the game was going to finish level. However, Matt Brewis hit a great corner into the box and Laighton Powell was on hand to head it into the goal leaving the impressive Keyworth keeper with no chance.

Summary: We know we can play better than that and have proved it already this season, but sometimes the result is more important and today was one of the games. Well done Olly, you controlled your area superbly. Well done lads for keeping going right to the end, but it was a worry when we were attacking in big numbers with a few minutes to go, and a goal up!!! A very entertaining game from two well matched teams.

what a big result for cotgrave today. we played poor in the first half and i asked the lads at half time if they really wanted first division football next season and they all said yes and took a big step today by bagging all 3 points. some great keeping and last gasp defending kept us in it today but that's fine when the end of the game comes and we are in the lead. with the whole squad there today we had 4 subs and players had to take their turn on the bench, so well done to the whole squad. two great goals today and laighton showed when you come off the bench sharp you can win us the game . i think that was the most important goal of our season so far and one of the most popular goals as well. well done lads, lets aim for double figures before christmas

I thought we played some good strong football in the first half with some good clean challenges between both teams. The Referee had a fantastic game and allowed the game to flow freely. With the play from end to end both keepers earned their places with some fantastic saves in both halves.

A very special goal for probably the smallest man on the field scored with a header well done Laighton.

Lets hope we have reached the turning point for the season and we start scoring and bagging a few points...

Well done to all and John for getting the lads ready even though training was cancelled thanks to no one to turn the lights on and well done Chris for running the line (this is somthing i do miss) WELL DONE ALL !!!!!

i think we played very well. as much as me and all the team want me in goal we have a new keeper now. unless he will play i will stay in goal for the rest of the season.
