Toton FC 6 Cotgrave Colts 2
6th October 2007
Nott's FA Shield

The first half was fairly even between the two teams. Toton had more chances, but Cotgrave had the best chance to open the scoring. Great work by Greg Halford sent in a cross that went over the keeper and fell to Jimmie Whitehead, unfortunately for Jimmie, he'd just picked up an injury and couldn't take the chance. The Cotgrave defence of Tom Morley, Matt Brewis, Ben Dunning & Callum Clark were limiting Toton to half chances. When needed Ryan in the goal was always there, but I don't recall him making a real save in the first half. At half time the score was Cotgrave 0 Toton 0.

Cotgrave were told to get more numbers up front in the second half and have the belief that they could win this game. From the Toton kick off the ball went back to their midfielder, who just launched the ball up towards the Cotgrave penalty area, where a Tom Morley was, but Tom miss-hit the ball and it rolled into the path of the Toton player who just slotted home past Ryan. Morley had been playing outstanding, but you could see his and a few more heads drop a bit. Toton quickly added a 2nd goal, which was a well worked goal by Toton. Then shortly after a 3rd, which happened when a Toton player miss hit a shot and it went to an unmarked Toton striker who had an easy job of knocking the ball in. The Toton midfield was on top at this stage and Colin Randall, Craig Saxelby & Joe Baker who had been superb were starting to be overrun. A change was needed and Ryan came out of goal to go into his usual midfield position and Glen Dale went into the goal. It was still the big Toton midfielders that was the main difference between the teams and Toton managed to go 6-0 up, with a mixture of well worked and very soft goals. Cotgrave then started to use the wings more and then got their reward with late goals from Ryan Smith and the hard working Greg Halford.

This was not as bad as the scoreline says. The difference between the two teams was obvious and next time we play, Ben will have to give Alex (the Toton midfielder) a 'harder' kick at school. Well played lads, everyone gave 100%, which is all that John can ask.

well done lads you gave as good as you got today and did all that was asked of you. we tried a few new things today and some worked well, we can build on this and with a bit of hard work we can start to turn these results around. well done lads you played with a lot of pride and worked well as a team.

First half we more than matched Toton and were unlucky not to go in ahead at half time, the second half started badly and the game was always going to be decided by who scored first, and unluckily it was Toton who went on to (what on paper looked to be emphatic)record a fine victory. Keep battling lads and the wins will come, even if the scorelines look bad on paper, no team has yet outfought or outclassed you in what is a very hard league

I feel you all played extremely fantastic. Next time we play them prove us right and lets win it. It was great to see that even with the score line as it was you managed to pick your heads up and score keep working hard and it will come.
