On arriving
at Hillcrest Drive (Hucknalls) Football ground at about 10 o'clock
on a beautiful Saturday morning Steve wasted no time in warming the
boys up, practising their skills and talking team tactics before
arranging his starting 7. Who were Alex in goal, Harvey,
Harry in defence, Elliot, Dillon and Craig in Midfield,
with Jordan as lone striker up front. Sam and Curtis initially as subs.
The boys kicked off at 10:40 and immediately were on the attack
as Jordan sprinted forward and was fed a blinding through ball before
it was unfortunately cleared by Hucknall but not before the Colts win
a first throw in their half. The Colts certainly had more of the ball
and constantly pressed forward although Hucknall did beat us on the
break before a crunching stop and big kick from Harvey allowed Dillon
to push forward on goal, only to be stopped by a good save from the
Hucknall keeper, who was certainly the busiest of the two keepers in
the first 15 minutes.
However a crunching tackle by the Colts gave Hucknall a free kick.
Once again Colts were first to the ball. Hucknall did get a break and
began to push forward but the boys were brilliant and all rallied around
and got behind the ball before another big boot allowed Jordan to break
forward earning the Colts a corner which Craig takes.
Colts
constantly on the attack at every opportunity, with Dillon and Harry
applying pressure and a good through ball by Elliot allowing the
forwards to sprint forward again. But unfortunately all their work
and effort is not paid off by a goal. Steve decides to change things
and Dillon and Craig are initially sacrificed to allow for Sam
and Curtis to join.
Straight away this pays off as Curtis hits a good ball for Jordan
to run free once again, but Hucknall defend well. With Harvey and Harry
ever present in defence and the boys well organised in midfield a big
kick from Sam again falls to Jordan who is brutally stopped, before
the whistles blown for the end of the first half. 0-0
Hucknall
kick off the second half with Steve once again changing things slightly. His starting 7 are: Harry in goal, Craig, Harvey
in defence, Dillon, and Alex in Midfield and Sam in attack. Elliot
and Jordan as subs. Unfortunately Hucknall come out the better
team and immediately win a corner which Sam clears well allowing Dillon
to push free and break forward. Hucknall are defending well and again
press hard into the Colts half before a big kick from Alex falls into
the Hucknall half. The Colts play some nice football with Harvey, Alex,
Sam and Dillon all combining well to allow Dillon to push forward and
shoot only for the keeper to save.
Colts continue to press in numbers but this second half Hucknall
are playing slightly the better and win a number of corners only for
Harry to save continually. The Colts support rallies around the team
as John Patterson gets the vocals going. This seems to immediately
pay off as Curtis breaks but once again Hucknalls defence do well.
Jordan
and Elliot come on as Hucknall break but Harry is on top form as
once again they shoot. Harry does a fantastic double
save to deny our hosts. Hucknall really are playing the better football
but Elliot does get a big kick on the ball which lands in the box to
allow the Colts to push forward.
Unfortunately
Hucknall are now the slightly better team and are winning the ball
and constantly break when possible but Harry is in outstanding form
in goal. The Colts attack when possible with shots by Sam, Jordan
up front and Alex who is controlling the midfield.
Craig is now in defence after Harvey is subbed and Craig constantly
denies Hucknall the ball as he contains Hucknall well. Once again the
Colts try to attack but their efforts are quashed by as equally a good
defence to our own. But as the time counts down Hucknall come strong
and push forward with every opportunity and as the Ref is about to
blow the whistle Hucknall shoot in the dying minutes only for the ball
to hit the post and dance across and empty goal mouth. Hucknall try
in vain to get the loose ball into the net but once again Harry is
there to save the day.
A brilliant game and each and everyone of the boys played well,
constantly on the attack when possible but getting back in numbers
when the ball was lost. Although the Colts were by far the more superior
team in the first half Hucknall pressed well in the second and maybe
a 0-0 draw is a right score. As for man of the match Steve had a difficult
choice to make once again as the boys were blinding, and its right
that the Man of the Match be shared this week by both Harry and Craig.
