Colts Blue 0 Long Eaton Utd 8 |
23rd
February 2008 |
The boys turned up bright and early this Saturday morning in eager
anticipation of playing Long Eaton.
Long Eaton
kicked off at 10.30 down hill on this very blustery
overcast Saturday morning and immediately used the wind to their advantage
as they took an early lead in the 3rd minute. Long Eaton were constantly
on the attack and played some of the most aggressive and slick passing
football that we have yet seen . The young Colts constantly having to
get behind the ball in their own half and defend as every attacking opportunity
Long Eaton took shot on goal, keeping Harry Hayward very busy.
All play
in the first 10min was in the Colts half and it wasn't until the 11th
minute that Jordan was able to break forward and aim for goal, but
unfortunately the rest of the team were not quick enough to respond
and the midfield failed to assist our lone striker. However this short
run inspired the boys as they then began to press for a short period,
this time the midfield awake assisted Jordan as he broke away once
more. But Long Eaton had a good game plan and bought any run to a quick
end and able to break us on the counter attack as they again pushed
forward. Craig
and Harvey constantly having to contain Long Eaton but unfortunately
their No 9 after having a shot blocked by Harry was able to release an
outstanding volley to make it 2-0.
The ball now constantly in the Colts half and unable to clear the
ball leads to Long Eaton winning a corner and one of the best goals seen
yet as they score a 3rd. Long Eaton now taking shot on goal with every
attempt and even though their No 7 feels the force of Harvey the Colts
are still unable to prevent them scoring a 4th. The Colts unfortunately
looking disjointed and not as organised as previous games bow their heads,
albeit Craig tries to make amends and thread a ball through to Jordan.
But Long Eaton show good organisation and are quick to react and again
win the ball before winning a 5th goal from yet another good corner.
Alex Milton from the kick off tries to push forward after receiving
a good ball and with some very good trickery pushes past two Long Eaton
midfielders before unfortunately loosing the ball. Long Eaton pounce
on the opportunity and in the final minutes of the half are able to score
a sixth.
The second
half starts with Steve making several changes - Elliot / Sam / Curtis & Matthew replacing Alex / Dillin / Harry Williams & Craig..
The half
time talk by Steve certainly appearing to of inspired the boys as they
attack from the off which leads to Sam winning a throw. The boys now
push forward and their perseverance works as they win another throw
well into Long Eaton's half. The Colts now look more organised and
with Elliot covering a lot of ground, Jordan constantly on the attack
with every loose ball & Harvey, Matthew & Craig working well
in defence they try to string some passes together but unfortunately
Long Eaton run forward and are able to break onto a loose ball their
pace greater than our young fighters and they well and truly kill the
game with a 7th.
Immediately
Curtis tries to break but to no joy. Steve makes some more changes
as Jordan comes off and Dillin replaces him and pushes forward, combining
well with Curtis who now appears to be involved in all the Colts attacking
play. Harvey is replaced by Alex Milton who links up well with Matthew.
Unfortunately no sooner have the changes been made that Long Eaton
are able to win a free kick and a good free kick it is as Harry is
forced to save again ensuring the ball is safe within his hands. With
a big kick the Colts are able to push forward and win a throw. Sam
with assistance from Elliot unleashes a blistering shot only to see
his ball unfortunately sail over the bar. But even with the changes and
short spell of possession the Colts are unable to stop Long Eaton from
scoring in the closing seconds to leave the score a disastrous 8-0 to
Long Eaton.
In
summary albeit the Colts were there in numbers they were not there
in mind , body or soul until well into the second half. But the game
was well and truly won in the first. Unlucky boys hopefully this
was an off week and we can pounce back again next week. well done
goes to Jordan who was constantly a threat to the Long Eaton defence
and who wins man of the match.
