Colts Blue 0 Lowdham 4 |
12th
April 2008 |
It has
been a time of change for the young Blue Colts, with a very disjointed
management setup as of late. What with the resignation of Steve and
stand-in Coach Paul Wilson only able to take over temporarily, the
Colts were about to start a fresh with new manager Chris Ross- Ferrari
hoping that they might be able to continue speeding away with good
score lines as they did last week with a well and truly great scoreline
2-1 against Southwell.
So Chris
started his first match day on this cold blustery day with a good
work out for the boys before picking his starting 7 which consisted
of Alex (in goal) Harvey, Harry Williams (in Defence) Craig, Matthew
and new boy Daniel in Midfield with Sam up front. The boys lost the
toss and Lowdham got the call to kick off facing the pavilion with
the Colts attacking down hill. Immediately the Colts tried to get into
gear and press as Sam tried to win an early ball but unfortunately
with no resulting finish. Much of the balls play being held in the
midfield before Lowdham gain the advantage and push forward in many
numbers. But the Colts defend well and try to break on the counter
attack, but Lowdham are well organised and Harry Williams does exceptionally
well to constantly clear the ball and shift it out of the Colts goal
area making long runs down the pitch. But even with him working effortlessly
Lowdham are still able to be given the first shot on goal that goes
just wide. Once again much of the play in this 1st quarter is in midfield
with both teams loosing that second ball, albeit Lowdham hold a vast
majority of the possession winning corners and throws which the Colts
defend well. First 10min finishes 0-0.
As the
boys enjoy their refreshments bought by new manager Chris changes
are made and the 2nd ten minutes starts with fresh faces: Jordan,
Elliot, Dillon, along
with some of the other leg weary lads Harry Williams, Harvey, Alex
and Sam. Colts kick off but once again its Lowdham who get the better
ball as they win possession and shoot only for the ball once again
to go wide. Alex kicks well and the Colts break forward as Jordan
does exceptionally well to force a throw well into Lowdham area.
But once again they keep their composure and defend well which results
in them breaking down the line and winning a corner. The Colts in
return defend outstandingly and with good play between Jordan, Elliot
and Harry the Colts themselves win a corner. The boys are now appearing
to gain a little more possession of the ball but changes are still
made as Harry who has worked blindingly comes off and is replaced
by Craig. Second 10mins a great turn around with regards the possession
but scoreline still remains 0-0.
3rd
10min starts once again with a change in faces: Alex, Elliot, Dillon,
Harvey, Jordan, Craig and Daniel. Lowdham kick off but immediately
the Colts press forcing an early throw. Lowdham do well in defence
as they pull back in numbers. Soon their calmness, patience and composure
works as they once again begin to win more of the ball winning a corner
which Elliot does brilliantly well to clear off the line before he
and the boys likewise break forcing their own corner. The balls played
in well and Elliot Allen does brilliantly well to get past 2 Lowdham
players and unleash a shot only for it to be blocked, fortunately the
loose ball falls to him again and he again takes another shot at goal
but only to see it blocked again before the 3rd shot goes disappointingly
wide. Lowdham now press hard after this major scare. The Colts once
again second to the ball and loosing the possession that they once
had and unbelievably through a number of defensive errors and the boys
unable to clear their areas Lowdham get shot on goal and score. Heads
down the boys again lose the ball almost immediately and no sooner
have they gone behind and lose possession they lose composure and give
away a poor penalty, and although young Alex dives the right way he's
unable to do anything as the ball bounces into the net off the post.
Lowdham finish this 3rd quarter 2 Nil up.
Final
10min Chris makes changes once again in a last ditch effort to change
the scoreline. But immediately Lowdham are allowed to win the ball
and push forward.. Lowdham are winning almost every loose ball in
this last 10min and have a majority of the possession. Due to these
frailties the Colts allow Lowdham to pass well in which one of their
young boys is allowed to release a blistering shot which results
in an outstanding goal that Alex is incapable of doing anything about.
Boys now in disarray lose the ball immediately and the whistle can't
come soon enough as they lose the ball, possession and the game as
Lowdham score a fourth which the boys can doing nothing about.
To summarise: The
day was not the best and the scoreline in itself flatters Lowdham.
Although they had a great deal of possession and worked well and
were composed the young Colts worked effortlessly for each other.
Harry Williams a constant threat down the line, Elliot working well
in midfield, Jordan forever trying to break forward, and Alex trying
so hard in goal. But it was new boy Daniel who caught the eye of
the new manager working exceptionally well and winning his first
man of the match. As for the rest of the boys they have all been
thorough a difficult patch what with the uncertainty of who would
take over the coaching role. But now that, that is in place I'm sure
Chris will soon turn around the results and have them firing on as
many cylinders as a Ferrari before long.
