Calverton MW 2 Cotgrave Colts 9
4th November 2007

Cotgrave had a full strength squad available for today’s game with no injuries or suspensions!!! Ben Weir was back in action and a new addition was welcomed to the team, Luke Hopper.

Cotgrave put the pressure on early in the match and a terrific strike from Luis Parkes 2 minutes into the game put Cotgrave one nil up. Within a minute Jordan took a Beckham special free kick which went crashing into the net. The boys continued pressing forward and earned a corner which was taken by Jordan who curled it into the net to score again.

Calverton responded well to the early goals with pressure which was well absorbed by the back three, Luke, Jacob and Clarke. Cotgrave continued to play well with Harrison displaying his usual skills down the right wing and Kieran Harris came close with an impressive strike. Jordan scored another beauty which gave him his well deserved hat trick. A powerful free kick was taken by Calverton which was powerful and on target off the box and Clarke produced a solid save. Calverton continually fought back but Cotgrave were quick on the break with Harrison and Jordan. A well worked throw in from Cotgrave with some Harrison jinxes saw him finish with a goal which put Cotgrave 5 goals ahead. Adam started a terrific move with a long range strike resulting in a goal mouth scramble. The post was hit and Luis commanded the ball which he buried into the net with one solid shot.

James Bennett was introduced at the back and showed solidity. With not much of the first half left to play, Jordan took a long range shot which was impressively saved by the Calverton goalkeeper.

Half time

The beginning of the second half saw some chances to our team. Adam took the goalkeeping position. Clarke sured up the solid defence and Luke Hopper made his debut at the back.

We attacked from the off with Harrison and Luis combining well. Great composure was shown by Harrison after another good stop by the Calverton keeper and he took advantage of the deflection and scored. We continued playing well and Luis came close after a great passing display. Harrison struck from a way out and a great stop from the Calverton keeper was again really impressive. Our defenders remained solid successfully blocking some menacing runs from Calvertons number 8. Jordan curled in another beauty from outside the box. Ben Weir was introduced to the match and immediately made himself busy in the middle of the park. Calverton never gave up and got a well deserved goal. Ben was kept busy again threatening the goal and scoring. Calverton responded well again which saw them score again with a superb strike.

Well done to everyone that played today, Cotgrave gave a great performance with their nice work on the training field paying off. Well done too to Calverton for their continued effort until the last whistle and their goals from number 6 and 8.
