The boys 3rd match of the season and they faced Pelican Colts who were undefeated in their first 3 matches. From the first whistle Pelican went forward with some neat passing and shot which just went wide of our goal. Clark kicked the ball in to their half and both sides battled for the next few minutes to get the upper hand which Cotgrave did when the ball was passed to Keiran who cracked it in, to put Cotgrave 1 up. Pelican kicked off but straight away Luis was on them and got the ball passed to Jordan, and goal number 2 followed. Pelican then really push forward but Luke and Jacob defended superbly, closing Pelican down and getting the ball back up front to Harrison who then ran down the wing and crossed the ball in to the box to Keiran and goal number 3. Pelican fought hard to try and get one back but Luis took the ball off them and side stepped the Pelican defence to score the 4th goal. Pelican tried hard to create some of their own play and could have scored but for a great tackle, first from Luke and moments later from Jacob, and then Cotgrave just closed them down quickly thus giving Harrison the ball to run down the wing and in to the box to get his first goal, and number 5 of the morning. During the rest of the first half between great passing from Luis, Jordan, and Keiran and his own play Harrison bagged 2 more goals to make it 7 nil at half time. Second half
Jacob Hill and Luke Sissons were subbed at half time, giving Adam Ward and James Bennett their turn to try and keep Pelican away from Clark and their goal. The second half started and before pelican could get to him Harrison collected the ball from Jordan, ran straight down the pitch and scored his 4th goal of the match and putting Cotgrave 8 nil up. Then it was Cotgrave's turn to try and defend as Pelican attacked with some great one twos and crosses from the wings, but Adam and James defended their area brilliantly stopping all but one off Pelican attacks getting through. The Pelican number 8 broke past our defence and hit a great ball which deserved to be a goal after the run he had made up the field and through our defence, but Clark made a great save to deny the Pelican their first goal. Luis and Jordan scored another 1 and 2 great goals respectively to put Cotgrave 11 nil up, and were then subbed to bring Luke and Jacob back on. Luke and Jacob linked up well playing up front with Harrison and Keiran on the wings but were never able to convert any off the crosses that came in, due to rugged defending and some great saves from the Pelican goal keeper. The game finished 11 nil to Cotgrave but the score does not tell both sides of the story as Pelican never at any point stopped battling today and played some great football which makes the win all the more special. Boys you all played fantastic today now lets carry it on. |
Feedback: name: Chris Clark Involvement: Cotgrave Supporter I received some feedback to check the match report over due to some typo's (spelling mistakes). I've done that, the main thing is that all the boys names are spelt correctly. I know it can cause concern if the names are spelt wrongly. Well done to the under 8's and the reporter. I enjoyed reading the report. Anyone who wants to add anything to the report, then use the feedback facility below. |
Feedback: name: Sara Involvement: Cotgrave Parent I agree. I really enjoyed reading this match report as I have to half keep my eye on my younger boy who was hanging from an unused Pelican goal at one point!! It is nice to read about the bits I missed. Well done |
