Squad: James Bennett, Clarke Dabell, Harrison Dowzell, Kieran Harris, Jacob Hill, Jordan Hopkinson, Luis Parkes, Luke Sissons. (Adam Ward unwell) Special message to Adam: everyone hopes you are getting better. A lovely summer’s day morning in Cotgrave in October (!) for a home match against Wollaton Hall Green. Could the performance possibly match Saturday’s fund-raising efforts?! It certainly did! Cotgrave went on the attack right from the start, with Harrison involved in most of the early action. Harrison’s ball control and passing set up Jordan and Luis for the first two goals, before roles were reversed for Luis to set up Harrison for the third goal. Then Jordan scored from a corner, and Harrison struck again before half-time. 5-0 to Cotgrave at half-time, but with lots of corners and pressure on the Wollaton Hall goal, and with several chances missed, it could have been a few more. At the start of the second half, Luke came on for Jacob. Now with the slope in their favour, Cotgrave put the Wollaton Hall defence under real pressure. Jordan opened the second half scoring, before Kieran struck with two goals in quick succession. Jacob then came back on for James, who had started a match for the first time. As the passing in attack got better and better, more goals were scored by Harrison, Jordan, Luis and Jordan again, so the final score was 12-0 to Cotgrave. The Cotgrave defenders – Jacob, James and Luke - were solid throughout, snuffing out all Wollaton Hall’s attempts to attack before they could threaten the Cotgrave goal, so Clarke had no chance to display his goal-keeping skills. For Clarke in goal, and the defenders quite often, the match was a test of maintaining concentration. Well done to Wollaton Hall for keeping going throughout, and having their best effort on goal towards the end of the match. For Cotgrave, what a Saturday and Sunday of results to take into the half-term break! Now up to 6 th place in the league table, with games in hand! |
